KATHY KUPKA PHOTOGRAPHY

Hi Everyone,

My name is Kathy Kupka. I am a portrait photographer, cancer survivor, and author.  I've had my business, Kathy Kupka Photography, in my home studio in Leesburg, Virginia since 1998. I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in 2001. I decided to self publish a photo gift book about the side effects I experienced from my cancer treatment using the expressions of the precious dogs in my portfolio to tell my story. Here's a brief background.

In April 2001, I was photographing a young boy and decided to bring my Cockapoo, Buddie, to the photo session to make the boy laugh. When I bent over to pick up my little dog, I broke my collarbone.

My doctor told me I had Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer of the plasma cells. As he was reading the diagnosis of this cancer I never heard of, my husband was taking notes, and I just kept thinking, "what's he going to say, 6 months, 12 months, how long do I have?" and then I heard him say, "There's no cure, but there IS treatment." Alright! Let's get started!

Until treatment began I didn't know about the side effects I would experience. That's why I named my book, "Cancer is Ruff, But There IS Treatment."

Along with my loving, supportive, caring family and friends, I had Buddie to comfort me during my treatments. I also had my photography to help keep me distracted. Buddie (my cover girl) has since passed away. The dog next to me here is my granddog, Sandy, aka Sandra, a Catahoula Hound mix.

My book is the perfect gift for anyone who has been touched by any kind of cancer. When words fail, this sweet, compassionate photo book will provide support, encouragement; and, most importantly, humor for anyone facing the challenges of cancer and the treatments involved. The precious images of dogs with those candid expressions only seen in children and animals, capture and reflect the range of feelings, both physical and emotional, that one can expect to go through in the course of fighting cancer.

You'll see when you read my wonderful testimonials!

Eat, Drink & Be Merry!
